Brewery acquired by John Courage in 1787.After various takeovers and mergers Anchor Brewery closed in 1981.Courage was acquired by Scottish & Newcastle Brys. who renamed themselves Scottish Courage.
The Courage brand of beers is now brewed in Bedford by Wells Young Brewing co.
