An artists view of the Holsten Brewery in Hamburg (Altona) from 1879 bearing adverts for "Lager Bier" and "Export Bier". In that same year (1879) the Holsten Brauerei, Hamburg was established and continued taking other north German breweries in the 1920s, then Dressler in the 1950s and then a load of other breweries were acquired from 1980s (particularly their neighbour Bavaria-St.Pauli group) until it finally fell into Carlsberg's hands in 1998. The brewery painting shows the industrial nature of the brewery and prominently is the nearby railway and the Holsten branded railway wagons.
