sub-titled "The History of Britain's Great Beers" this is a masterly survey of the many styles of beer brewed in the British Isles both in the present day and in the past. Sixteen different beer styles are looked at from the ubiquitous Bitter, through Milds and Porters and the almost forgotten Dinner Ales to the revivals of ancient ales like Heather and Honey beers and of course "Lager". For each of these their history, traditions, particular brewers and brewing features are comprehensively discussed. A good number of b & w illustrations are included. Very readable, full of interest this will be a classic reference source for British beer styles.
