Bradford's pubs and beerhouses grew rapidly in the 19th century catering for workers and traders respectively. The book portrays the pubs of the city centre, then the inner areas and finally the pubs of the surrounding urban suburbs. The history of the former brewers is briefly outlined and illustrated by photos showing the pub liveries, brewery adverts and sketches. Most of the photos, from the 1880s to the 1980s are of pub exteriors although there are some pub floor plans reproduced giving an evocative picture of pub life and development in this blunt Yorkshire city
