A collection drawn from the local archives of photos of pubs in this busy area of west London. The illustrations show how the pubs have changed from the small almost rural taverns when market gardening flourished here to the succeeding large pubs built by breweries to cater for the rapid increase in population around the end of the 19th century, and finally to the present day when many of the pubs that survived until the 1960s have been demolished and replaced by offices, shops or other non-drinking establishments. Districts covered include Fulham, Brook Green, Hammersmith and Shepherd´┐Żs Bush; some interior photos but mostly exterior with many showing the names of departed breweries.
